I didn't expect this podcast to be this long. It's only 13 tracks but I think it's the length of some of the songs(it's all good). Well, this week I begin school and I'm looking forward to this class. This podcast will be my last for a minute because I really wish to concentrate on my studies. Last week podcast tunes were from iodapromonet...this podcast will showcase music from some of my favorite artists that when I began listening to smooth jazz these artists(most are jazz and some in this line up you would consider pop, rock) not help my knowledge of music but the musicians and sometimes when I was having a rough day kickin' back and listening to these tracks gave me that "second wind" get going again.

Big congrats goes out to Fave and the crew over at Soulbounce for getting to the finals to be chosen for the "best music podcast" and "best music blog" for this years Black Weblog Awards. You can still vote, deadline is August 31st so don't delay.

Big shout out to new listener and musician Tom Cawley and his trio group Curios out of London(welcome dude). He sent me a track to showcase and I am more than happy to do this. The track "Truce" is nice piano/bass/drum composition that is cool to chill out on a beautiful Autumn day or any day of your choosing(as you can see I can not wait till Fall comes).

A great jazz podcast "must have" is from our own tgrundy's "Smooth Jazz - Najee, Earl Klugh & George Howard…"

Many people who have followed me from when I first hit the scene on Vox I have been a lover of technology and how I always talked about Leo Laporte and his podcast. I have to be honest for a while I kind of fell off the wagon when it came to covering tech and as me and Steve were chatting that TWiT to us had become kinda "stale" but the episodes #157/#156/#154/#153 has made me get hooked on ThisWeek(in)Tech. With the crew of Dvorak, Harris, Norton, Rose and with guest like Don Reisinger, Robert Heron has for me made me listen again.

I can not say enough about this young lady when it comes to her podcast. I wrote a post on Nikki and all I can say about her Soulrific podcast is WOW! Check out my post and check out her podcast...you will not be disappointed.

Hope these tracks truly relax you make you take some "me" time.

Enjoy

23August08 MyLoveForMusic Episode

Posted by: DarrenKeith in , , , ,

Usually when I produce my podcast I have a mixture of tunes from the podsafe network site iodapromonet and compositions from my own library but this one all of the tracks are from iodapromonet. Another cool thing is that when I download them I listen to a snippet of each track to see if it's either yeah or nay but this go round I took a "leap of faith" and the tunes I'm showcasing are really nice and I know in the future some of these cuts will find their way in a MyLoveForMusic:Twilight episode.

I know there are other podsafe music sites out there but I have found iodapromonet to work best for me. One thing I have to take time out to do in the future is to write them about adding more Bluegrass instrumentals. Besides that iodapromonet is my choice and big shout out to Fave for sharing this site with me. (Big, BIG ups to Fave on his nomination for Best Music Podcaster for the 2008 Black Weblog Awards).

What really surprised with this selection is the number of beautiful/peaceful tracks I captured and for me it seems to happen this way: if I'm really hunting for them, I can't find them but sometimes when I throw "cautious to the wind" I catch some gems.

The cool thing about producing these shows is that sometimes just when you think it is becoming mundane I am blessed to come across more music that makes me keep pushing ahead with this podcast.

Enjoy the tunes

MLFM spotlight: Nikki

Posted by: DarrenKeith in , , , , , , , ,

From the opening of Nikki's podcast with the statement...

"encompass your mind, body and soul...Soulrific"

You're about to embark on a journey with some of the best Nu Soul, true R&B and some of the best hip hop(true hip hop) with a her podcast. I first ran across Nikki on her Vox blog, a gifted photographer, a young lady that says what's on her mind. As the ol' folks say, "She says what she means and means what she says". This beautiful sister is not only talented behind the lens but from the very her first podcast that began over at Infinite Ink spun off to it's own site each podcast keeps getting better and better.

As one would say about Chris Noth's character Mike Logan with having the "golden gut"(which means he has the gift of sniffing out the bad guys) this young lady has to me the "golden ear". She not only has the gift of finding the some of the best, new Soul music but has a gift of having one song flow into another without missing a beat. Episode 22 I listened to twice on my night job. Knowing when to bring in a track and not have it sounding "choppy" is a craft she is perfecting with every episode. If you have listened to my podcast you have heard me wave about her and to me she's all that and then some.

With instrumental tracks for me it's easy for me to find great tunes because to me unless you are really terrible most of the artists sound great. With Soul, R&B, Hip Hop that is a different matter. In today's market with most artists hide behind the miracles of studio producers only to see them in concert you have wasted your money, Nikki digs deep and finds some of the most talented/gifted brothers and sisters that rarely get commercial radio time and brings them to the forefront and I am so greatful for the hard work she puts into her podcasts each week. When you here the movie snippet(which by the way this young lady has excellent taste when it comes to movies with substance and I think she's may have a thing for Lawrence Fishborne ) the music journey for me takes me back to when true musicians and artists had not only the vocals but the substance of the lyrics brings a smile to my face.

Her latest episode, Soulrific #22 brings me back to the days of Public Enemy, D'Angelo, Maxwell, Eryka Badu. With skills of Talib Kweli(the track "More and Less to me is true Hip Hop), Pete Rock, the soulful richness of Noel Gourdin(the track "Reach" the cut I can listen to over and over). All of the tracks takes me back to living in South City St. Louis. It wasn't the safest place but I never had any problems and living in the city makes you keep it "real" and that is what I love about her choice of compositions...it makes you keep it real. It reminds you "never forget where you come from". What makes her podcast stand out to me is it gets right to the "meat" of things...the music and that is what I truly love about her podcast. The more she keeps producing podcasts the more she's sharpen her craft as not only a producer but a true mixer when it comes to bringing tunes to the masses.

Another thing I love about Nikki is her designs of her sites: minimal but very eye catching. I have asked her where she gets each image but she said she would "have to hurt me"...well she said something else lets just leave it at that(I kid, I kid because I love you sista). But all kidding aside her sites are very nice/clean and draws you in to see what she has to say.

What Nikki has brought to the podcasting community is refreshing and makes me look at the genre that I thought was long gone. I know I have thank you so many times but...

Thank you.

what's going good people!

Welcome to another MyLoveForMusic:Twilight. I hope everyone is doing well and I hope the work week has been good to you. Next week I will begin class and this time I will truly have my nose to the grindstone so I don't know when I will be able to bring you another podcast so I hope you enjoy this selection I put together for you.

For me finding quality music has never been an issue with me because for me since I listen mostly to instrumental music, whether jazz, new age, ambient this music has always transcended me to another time and place. This selection could have been put in the MyLoveForMusic category but as I sit hear the playback I put it in the right place.

Big shout out to my man Fave for his nomination for "Best Music Podcast" for the 2008 Black Weblog Award. You deserve that nod and I believe you will get the nod for Best Music Podcast.

Like my new web template? I think it's cool. Had to change it because for some reason my old theme template was not showing the image. I uninstalled and reinstalled with no prevail. Finally I had to begin "template" shopping and came across this wonderful template by lena[http://lenatoewsdesigns.blogspot.com/] very nice templates she has over at her site.

The two tracks I have in the line up by Rahsaan Patterson I really dig. I remember downloading "Burnin'" about 2 years ago when living in Florida so when I found his other single "No Danger" over at iodapromonet I jumped on that and I down the road I have to invest in purchasing his two LP because it takes a lot for me to invest into a vocal LP but I think his music maybe worth the money.

I downloaded Paul Brown's "White Sand" LP a while back and this is another collections of tracks that I never listen to but have it in my possession...why do I do this? I have to do better when it comes to purchasing music and make time to listen to what I own

I hope you dig this selection of music. I think it's relaxing for a twilight episode.
{shout out from DJ Diva}

Enjoy

Let Me Know What You Think of My Blog/Podcast

Posted by: DarrenKeith in ,

I recently switched my comments from "Registered Users" to "Anyone-includes Anonymous Users". The reason why I had this setting was that I was trying to keep spammers from hitting my site but in the process I may have missed out on some really informative comments so I have switched it to this setting so feel free to leave a comment.

I truly enjoy bringing you these podcast but at the same time I would like to know what you think of the shows I have produced because I am going to be honest, we as podcasters would like to know what's on your mind from time to time because a lot of time goes into making these shows and sometimes I am not going to lie it gets a little discouraging when you do not hear from the people who download the podcast.

Like I said in the beginning, hopefully by me changing the setting this may help me to find out how you feel about what I do.

Be Blessed,

~DarrenKeith

Posted by: DarrenKeith in , , , , , , , , ,

Welcome back everyone, I hope your work week went well and I hope your weekend will belong to you. Two things I have told myself, (1) Take life for what it's worth and (2) not to do any more podcast with 17-18 tracks...I can't handle that when it comes to the show notes. But besides that everything is great. This podcast will have a positive hip-hop track(that was inspired by Macedonia's BSOTS episode #69[the track was "love, hugs and hip-hop"by carlos nino & lil' sci]). With that said I want to keep the positive vibe going with my podcast.

"Natural" was inspired because it's a very positive song to me from Arrested Development and because I may step on some toes here but I think the natural woman look has been look. At work I see so much weave, fake eyelashes it makes me sick to my stomach. To see a woman her natural hair and natural features I would not know how to act.

I'm loving this track form Dan Heck because it puts me in mind of the sound from Spike Lee's "Mo Better Blues". I'm upset with myself because tracks like "Blade's Groove" remind me that how I should have given traditional jazz a chance years ago but thank God I can go back and here earlier recordings from the greats(Miles, Coltrane, Parker, Armstrong). I'm loving the solos from each of the musicians in this track, truly amazing

It's something about whenever I hear a jazz track with the organ it. I do not listen to blues but it gives it that "bluesy" feeling (is that a word? If not, I just made it a word). William Ash, "The Soho Strut" is a very laid back, chill track that takes me back when living in Florida, having the window open at home and just letting the sounds of nature and the jazzy tunes just let me melt in my recliner.

I love, love, LOVE this entire CD by Wind Machine. I stumbled across this CD when I check it out from the library back in the late 90s. One of the things I love about "Voices In The Wind" is the acoustic guitars are all in harmony, the vocal harmonies, the fretless bass played on some of the tracks. There are a hints of keyboards but mainly the acoustic guitars are the show and I love every track. I highly recommend adding this CD to your music library.

I have to admit I have this LP and have not put it on my iPod and that is stupid on my part. This is a very beautiful song from Don Ross. "Ebon Coast" is a song that when you place two talented musicians[Don Ross & Andy McKee] in the room and they are not worried about who gets the spotlight this is what you get...a gem. I will be loading his LP, "The Thing That Came From Somewhere" on my mp3 player and if any other track jumps out at me, I will be sure to showcase it in future podcast.

The tune from Medwyn Goodall I think is pretty nice, pretty soothing. It puts me in mind of the Arabian movie soundtracks. "Ra(Single Version)" is a tune that had to grow on me and now that it has it will be in heavy rotation on me iPod. ^_~

From the WOW Gospel 2000 double CD "Secret Place" by Darwin Hobbs is a wonderful, uplifted gospel track that for me when hearing this track it puts me in mind of King David when he would go off to himself and have intimate conversations with my Lord and Savior.

This was the very first song I heard from Pat Metheny and believe it or not VH1 used to play this video on their Sunday Brunch show back in the day...man I miss when MTV and VH1 showed "videos". This was the first time I heard a guitar sound this way and it blew me away. I did not know of Pat Metheny but when hearing "Are You Going With Me?" I knew I had to begin buying his music and I have never looked back. This track is from their "Offramp" released back in 1982 is a classic because it still sounds good after 20 years.

*New Zealand producer Daimon Schwalger has released music under the name The Nomad for many years. This downtempo-with-dub-influences album was originally released in 2005, and is now available digitally for the first time

This track is that will make me look into this artist in the future. I remember back in the late 90s we had a reggae club here on "The Landing" here downtown St. Louis and I have to admit, reggae music is very hypnotic. People may not agree but it puts you in a very, relaxing state. This track, "Common Sense" by The Nomad[Daimon Scwalger] is on point and I hope I will in future be able to find more of his work.

This bassist can do no wrong with me. Michael Manring gift takes me a back each and every time. This track "Sightings" from his Unusual Weather" LP always brings a smile to my face. With the help of Paul McCadeles.

It's a shame we do not have a jazz station here in St. Louis any more because this is how I learned of these twin brothers[Wayne and Nelson Braxton] out of San Francisco. The Braxton Brothers' "Now & Forever" was one of very first jazz CD a purchased when I bought my first CD player back in the mid 90s. "All my Love" is one track that I do not mind vocals on because the sister can sing and it fits the composition.
