Celebrate Early And Often [Video By Jacqui Naylor]

This was really cool when a artists reaches out to you and says "Thank You" for checking out their work. Jacqui sent me a very nice email letting me know how much she appreciate me taking time to check out her album, writing a review and showcasing one of her tunes on my show. I am the one that is truly thankful. She allowed me use her music so that in itself is a blessing.

Huge thanx to Amy Long for sending me the album to review and thanx to Ulan for sending me the embedded code to post this video of Jacqui Naylor performing, "Celebrate Early And Often".

MyLoveForMusic 24 January 09 Episode

My first MLFM edition for the new year. This podcast has a little bit of every thing and I'm glad I am getting back to the formula. The past couple of weeks I have began listening to my past shows from 2008 and it's amazing how sometimes checking out your past work to get you back to what works for you, what brings you joy and what I discovered is that I love instrumentals, I love great vocal work from time to time. So this show will be music from my past (The Braxton Brothers), music that I discovered (Grand Pianoramax, mindthings, C.J.ROGERS) and I lil' bit of down home, good country music (Zac Brown Band).

One of my favorite bassist I had to place in this podcast. Michael Manring I have followed for close to over 10 years now. I never get tired of how he re-invents himself when it comes to playing the fretless bass guitar.

Late last year the Zac Brown Band began following my twitter. I went to their site and checked out their music and I was hooked. It reminds me of some the great songwriters of the 70s(Gordon Lightfoot, England Dan & John Ford Coley, The Carpenters, Firefall). I truly love their music arrangements and the vocals of Zac Brown is really rich, strong and yet subtle at times.

The last two tracks are from two very talented women that I had a chance to review their albums. K.J. Denhert's cover of The Police's "Message In a Bottle" is very cool and her own, and I love how Jacqui Naylor makes The Rolling Stones' "Miss You" cover has me repeating that on my iPod over and over again.

As always, kick back, relax, at the music take you to another place.

MyLoveForMusic: InspirationSounds - January 2009

This podcast went through a couple of song line up and just me finally recording this was a task within itself. This month has not been the best for me so far but I'm keeping my head up and keeping my eyes on Christ Jesus. I'm learning first hand that they are some situations I have to step out on faith, other situations I have to have patience. I have to keep reminding myself that I have to do what I can and God will do what I can't.

While listening to the playback of the tracks I selected it makes me sit back and reflect forward because I keep focusing on my mistakes I will never move forward in life and what my Lord and Savior has in store for me. This podcast almost did not get recorded until I read this passage from Proverbs 3:27-28...

27 Do not withhold good from those who deserve it
when it’s in your power to help them.
28 If you can help your neighbor now, don’t say,
“Come back tomorrow, and then I’ll help you.”

It reminds me to sow good in someone else life because people are hurting worse than yourself.

10Jan09MLFM Spotlight: Todd Kelley/Muhsinah/Foreign Exchange

What's going on everyone. I can't believe a year has passed since I began this podcast. My first podcast was a spotlight on my favorite jazz vocalist, Michael Franks and for my first anniversary I was going to feature a spotlight on Michael Manring but as 2008 came to a close four artists kept coming in my mind and I couldn't shake them so this spotlight will be on Todd Kelley, Muhsinah, The Foreign Exchange(Phonte and Nicolay)

To be honest it comes full circle on one person, Todd Kelley. I say this because when Fave told me about this gifted producer back in 2007 I reached out to him when hearing some of his Background Flow mixes and two things stood out about Todd...he's willing to share great music and giving me the 411 on great producers and second, his gift for putting great beats together. It really hit me when hearing "The Chance of Rain" featuring the vocalist of T.J. Brown. When I heard that beautiful track my jaw hit the floor and that song received heavy rotation on my iPod. So not only is the brother talented in blending instrumental mixes but can put together some of the best beats for vocalist to share their gift (two of my favorite tracks are by Fave collaboration with Todd Kelly).

Another cool thing about Todd is the fact that he introduced me to the sounds and beats of Nicolay. When hearing one of Todd's Background Flow mixes I heard a track that I kept going back to time and time again and when asking who was that artist, Todd told me Nicolay (the track is "Hey") thus began my quest of finding music by this talented producer/DJ. From there I discovered Foreign Exchange, Phonte, Muhsinah and all of this in a weird way circled back to Todd.

When hearing the track "Daykeeper" I have to admit I fell in love with the voice of Muhsinah. The blend of Phonte and Muhsinah vocals and the music by Nicolay put me in a place where when hearing Seal first LP. I know this is in the genre of Hip Hop but I beg to differ because for me this entire LP could be dropped in the genre of Lounge, Chill Out, Downtempo because of the way the tracks flow whether you are hearing the vocals or the instrumentals. When hearing this entire LP (thanks again to you know who, Todd) it has made me seek out the first Foreign Exchange LP and the City Lights LP by Nicolay.

When hearing Muhsinah's voice it's haunting, surreal, serene. Her voice draws you in, even if you do not want to be captivated but before you know it you are there. One thing I love about Muhsinah is that you really can't pin down her vocal style and that's a great thing because that leaves her vocal in the music genre wide open and she will not be pigeon-holed. It also helps that she a musician, arranger, producer.

The beautiful thing about this show is that no matter how I would have put the track arrangement each song would have blended smoothly one behind the other which again lets you know the gift of these for musicians/producers/vocalists.

Kick back, relax and let the sounds of these incredible tracks kick off your 2009 the right/smooth/relaxing way.
