I Love Soft Rock/Pop 70s Music

I grew up in this era and whenever I hear this music it brings a huge smile to my face. (And of course I'm paying close attention to the bassline. ^_~)

MyLoveForMusic Spotlight: Wayman Tisdale

That smile, that smile. From his smile I have learned to smile more. Wayman Tisdale left a body of work on the court and off the court music wise and we are all thankful for that. He has taught me that you can have a passion for more than more thing in your life, enjoy what you do, make money at it and make a slew of friend along the journey. From what I have read on Mr. Tisdale know matter who he encountered he made you look at life from the "half full" spectrum.

I'm upset with myself because I only have two of his 8 LPs but it's going to be my mission to get the rest of his music because this guy was truly a gifted bassist. Last Friday he lost his battle with cancer but even dealing with that it seems he passed on so much love to his lovely wife and his children, musicians, former teammates on how to love life, do not take anything for granted.

The selections I bring you are from his "Hang Time" and "Way Up!" albums and I happened to "sneak" in some tracks where for me the bassline really jumped out at me from these artists(Walter Becker, Marcus Miller, Chuck Rainey, Michael Manring). I am so thankful to be able to bring you this spotlight on Wayman Tisdale and I am so thankful that he has left behind a wonderful music library for us to check out over and over again. I hate to say "Rest In Peace" because by Wayman being a Christian I KNOW that I KNOW he's in a better place. May blessings to his wife and his children. Our prayer are with you in this time of sadness but I know when you see that smile of his in photos it brings a huge smile to your face...I know it brightens my heart when hearing his music and seeing that "Billion Dollar" smile of his.

3 in the Morning and Michael Franks

You've heard me rant on and on from time to time about this artist but I never grow tired hearing Michael Franks. I have to be honest I haven't sat down and just listened to one of my all-time favorite jazz vocalist but here it is 3:28 in the morning and I have to admit...it's pretty nice.

I have seen him twice in concert back in the early 90's and it brings back wonderful memories...first moving over here in the late 80s, taking a huge step for a small town boy like myself (even though moving from Madison, IL to St. Louis was just over the bridge but still it was a huge step for me). I met him at the concert and I swore I would not get tongue-tied but I did. The very first LP I bought of Michael Franks was "Skin Dive" from Camelot in the St. Louis Centre mall. I heard "Your Secret's Safe With Me" on KSLQ (Now KY98) and I called the radio station that night and asked who was that artist?

Fast forward to now and I still love his music. What is so wonderful about his music is his love for words, his love for poetry, his love for arrangements. He is truly a gifted song writer and what is really cool about him is the fact on every recording how he surrounds himself with some of the best musicians in the industry...it's like a "who's who" when it comes to some of the artists (this is why I love reading liner notes and I hope CD's never go away). I have to admit my favorite LPs from Mr. Franks are...

Skin Dive
Passionfruit
Blue Pacific
The Camera Never Lies

Passionfruit is a LP I can listen to over and over. from "Alone At Night" to "How The Garden Grows" To kick back on a Saturday evening or a Sunday morning and soak in his lyrics is a true blessing for me. What is your favorite Michael Franks LP? Let me know. I think I may have to do another Michael Franks podcast in the future because again, I never grow tired of listening to him.

*If you are reading this Mr. Franks, when are you coming back to the Gateway?

here is my very first podcast and yes it is a collection of "you know who" tunes

2009May MLFM:InspirationSounds

The devotion from today really was the "icing on the cake" in regards to this podcast. I know I am thankful for Christ Jesus dying for me but I can never count the cost what He gave up for me. This keeps me in line whenever I wish to have a pity party. I read the passage for today's "Our Daily Bread" devotion but reading it was not enough so that is why I had to add it at the beginning of the show.

To realize that loving Him and obeying Him is one of the greatest joys to me (and I will admit sometimes I am hard-headed from time to time and believe me I pay the price because in the end I have to realize that He is trying to keep me safe...not from experiencing life to the fullest). I also added a snippet of Proverbs Chapter 3 because that is one of my favorite books in the Bible. One day I will have enough music where I can record a 90minute InspirationSounds because for me I felt like this show was too short but maybe it's just me because I dig what I do.

The music I'm bringing I think will hit home for some because sometimes we can't put into words the goodness of what God has, will and "is" doing in our lives on a daily basis. Sometimes we get upset that He is not moving on own schedule but I have to keep in mind when I'm "waiting" God is "working" behind the scenes because he sees what we need in our lives.

Be Blessed, Be Safe,
& have a Wonderful work week

MLFM: Twilight(May2009 Extended Edition)

This is a special podcast because this is a special month for me...May. I was born this month and I have been told that it is better to give than receive so this podcast I have put together show about 90 minutes of music from talented artists from seasoned artists and artists which star is on the rise.

The cool thing about loving different genres of music for me is that when I began this podcast in 2007 is that right off the back I began meshing different style of music because I did not want my shows to be painted in a corner. Although I chose that path it took a minute to build a following and at times I found myself wondering if I made the right decision in going this direction but now it seems that I have come to realize that I am who I am when it comes to my taste in music and when you stick to your passion it will work out in the end.

This show is a combination of different genres/different artists that otherwise would never be in the same line up but through the wonderful world of the internet and the open minds of people I can bring this eclectic of music. Enjoy

Be Blessed, Be Safe,
& Have a Wonderful Weekend/Work Week
