MyLoveForMusic's ThriftStoreGems Podcast {February Edition}

This is what happens when you forget to paint outside the box. My whole "ThriftStoreGems" podcasts were based off the fact that I would find cassettes at thrift stores and convert them to mp3s and then bring them to the masses but something happened along the way. As I would go to thrift stores, good will stores I wasn't coming across cassettes the way I used so those podcasts came to an halt.

But what if I would find cds at these stores...would they still be considered "ThriftStoreGems"? and the answer to that question was...

Yes.

I come to the conclusion that if I find great music in these type of stores whether cassettes or cds they are gems because the fun is in the hunt when it comes to finding these treasures.

Four cds I found that one is an pioneer when it comes to jazz music, a younger brother that didn't want to be in the shadow of his brother, a duo that I have followed for a while and a album when first seen it I passed on it and now that I picked it up I wished I would have followed him sooner.

The albums you will hear in this next hour will be:

While listening to these albums to chose which tunes to bring to the masses it took me back to a time when I was single and just chilling at my apartment on a Saturday evening by myself stretched out on the couch with candles lit and just absorbing the music, letting it just wash over me and through me. It took me to a time when record shops were still popular and there was a huge selection of cds to choose from and the people that worked in the store knew you by your face and by your name. When a new Jazz or New Age album came in there would call me a let me know what was new. I miss those times but I thank God that now I can still find this music and

***If you get a chance, take time to take this survey in regards to how you are enjoying my podcast. Thank you.***

I haven't brought a InspirationSounds podcasts since December and to be honest I came to a road block because to be honest I had not had a chance to purchase new Gospel and Christian music and I was feeling like a hypocrite but two great things happened to me: JCTV and my brother in podcasting Doug Fresh gave me an idea when it came to new music. While me and Doug were discussing where he finds his new music and what he told me hit me like a ton of bricks because it was one of ideas that was so simple and I have to hit myself in the back of they head and say, "D.K. why didn't you think of that?"

I finally broke down and invested into digital cable because with analog cable we lost the station TBN (Trinity Broadcast Network) and when upgrading not only did we gain TBN but the Church Channel and JCTV (think of MTV but 10 times better) and that happened it opened a new idea. Whenever I make a new InspirationSounds podcast I will also link the video (if available) because as an Follower of Christ we need as much exposure to let the world know that the Christian artists are just as talented as the secular artists.

This selection of music is really coming across the board because not only should this music reach the people my age but it has to reach our youth as well.

Enjoy the selection.

Be Blessed. :-)

MyLoveForMusic: 20February2010 Edition

This playlist was pushed back a couple of months due to my schedule but that the GRAMMYs and Cupid's Hunt is now in the past I can get back to what I do best, hunt down new music and music in my library. It feels good to get back to schedule of music that brings a smile to my face. I can't think of the last time really listen to a radio station (that's not really true, we have a station here in St. Louis that plays pop, soul (that was the term used back in the 70s) from the 60s-90s. But we do not have a station that plays jazz or new age 24/7.

MyLoveForMusic: Cupid's Hunt 2010 Collaboration

***CORRECTION***
Atomic Skunk first album is "Binary Scenes" and not Binary Numbers...my deepest apology to you Rich, I don't know why I keep saying the latter...shame on me.

Vivrant Thang ask me when talking via Twitter, "What is your theme for Cupid's Hunt?" I never gave it any thought until she posed that question to me. As you well know my taste in music comes mostly in instrumental form and there I guess my theme for Cupid's Hunt is "A Blank Canvas"

Recast: o3.o1.2oo8 ThriftStoreGems Selections

This I think may be one of my favorite netcast to date. Back in the late 80's I was just coming into jazz music not knowing anything about new age, folk, ambient music at the time. When I finally sat down and began listening to Andreas Vollenweider for me that was an door opening for me that would never close.

This podcast is a delight for me because of two reasons: to spotlight an artist I have followed for over 10 years and an artist that I have come across via twitter that has been around for a while and it's time for him to get his due when it comes to what he loves to compose.

2010 GRAMMYs, You Showed Your Butt BIG TIME!!(but in a good way)

All and all I enjoyed the GRAMMYs and what set the mood was the pre-telecast. This is where you see other artists, engineers, producers, songwriters receive their award before the tricked out telecast that you see during the evening. I always wondered when I would buy certain artists albums from the genres I follow would  have the stamp, "GRAMMY award winner blah, blah, blah" and I would say, "They did? They weren't at the GRAMMYs?" Now I kinda know how it works. The pre-telecast is where many of the artists receive the majority of their GRAMMYs.
