MLFM episode 012 - Different Location, Same Great Music Comin' At Ya

This podcast was supposed to have been recorded and posted last week but "life" got in the way and this week was kinda rough and stressful. So stressful that I had a headache for two days and my left eye was throbbing and that's not a good sign. So instead of recording it in the "cubby hole" I went down to the clubhouse and recorded it there. I have to say, it was cool to be in a different setting and to see sunshine.

This music line up I'm pretty happy with, at the last minute I switched out one song and replaced with a track by Joni Mitchell. The other track just kept nagging me and I felt it didn't really fit and I'm glad I made the switch because now I feel the podcast flows better. A have a couple great tunes by Nicolay, a track from one of my brothers in podcasting, Todd Kelley, a track by Derek K. Miller and a track from one of my favorite movies.

This music podcast is over one hour so that means this is a great podcast for a lazy Saturday evening.

I posted a short video on YouTube talking a little of what equipment I use to make my podcast (you'll be surprised how simple it is and you don't need the "latest and greatest equipment" to make a nice podcast). I may make that a habit to record there until they kick me out of there because sometimes it's cool to see the outside.

Hope you dig the tunes, I hope I didn't talk too much.

As I always say, kick back, relax and enjoy the music. :-)

14August2010 MLFM extra - "Just Because"

This podcast I put together was "Just Because". You may have heard these cuts before either on the radio, on the elevator, heck, maybe from one of my earlier podcasts but one thing about me is when I start off making music podcast I just can't stop at just one. While I'm putting together one playlist other ideas is flowing in my little brain on certain themes of music. As I have said, music is "my soundtrack" of life, it truly is and it has been for a very long time.
To be honest music has been my escape. That may sound like a cliche but it has been for many years. Me being an only child and self-conscience about my appearance for many, many (and at times to this day I'm that way now.) I wanted a girlfriend coming up as a kid and I think I had a crush like every six month on a girl from head start until high school (I think I can name the majority of the girls I dug, how pathetic is that). Whenever I thought some girl "may" have liked me I would make her a mixtape of slow jams and some cuts I don't think at the time many Blacks were digging...well not in public any way and for me she may not be mine yet but when I was alone listening to music I imagine me and girl I had the hots for at the time would be spending time walking through the park during the Autumn, holding hands, snugged up. Maybe I watched too many romantic movies and of course music plays a big part of those movies.

This collection of tunes is for that lovely moment with that special someone. Most of the tracks comes from artists that are great in their own right and they are doing cover songs of artists that were great in their right in the music world.

I love the cover song by the late great George Jinda of Special EFX, The Temptations, "Just My Imagination" The tempo is a little more uptempo but hearing it still brings a smile to my face thinking of the vocal of Eddie Kendricks and Paul Williams.

As you well know when it comes to guitarist I enjoy the sounds of Earl Klugh, Will Ackerman, Doug Fresh, Alex de Grassi, Don Ross, Stanley Jordan, Chet Atkins and this cat...Andy McKee. When first hearing and seeing "Drifting" my mouth flew open wide. The last time I saw guitar work like that was the late Michael Hedges. In this music line up Andy's cover of a Toto's classic, "Ill Be Over You" is truly a gem. The entire "The Gates of Gnomeria" album is a must have for your music library. It's an album to play when you're by yourself in deep thought, having a small gathering or trying to impress that cutie pie.

Late great saxophonist George Howard holds it down with the Kenny Loggins, "Love Will Follow" When hearing that cut you can't help but think about candle light dinners or an evening stroll. I remember seeing Mr. Howard in concert before his passing at the club Mississippi Nights down on the Riverfront downtown St. Louis.

The late Jon Lucien puts the Virgin Islands flavor on Christopher Cross, "Sailing". With the soprano saxophone and the piano playing in the background makes this tune a pleasure to hear over and over again.

I love I have the opportunity to bring my taste of music to the masses and I think you will dig this music line because you know I have find a way to make you slow down from your hectic life to enjoy what's surrounds you and take stock of what's important in your life: your health, your family, slowing down to smell the roses or gaze up at a star filled sky because we get so busy with life and dealing with other people crap we forget to kick back and just enjoy life, "Just Because".

MLFM episode 011 - Elements of Jazz

***It was brought to my attention that I said, "Element of Jazz" instead of "Elements of Jazz". Donna charge mind, not my heart because you know I did not mean to make that mistake, I'm truly sorry. ***

I don't know why I'm compelled to release these podcast on Sundays but it just fits that day.

Hope all is good in your neck of the neighborhood, or woods or where you reside. I hope you had a chance to kick back and relax before another work week.

This podcast is going out to a twitter buddy who digs what she does when it comes the information of Jazz. We appreciate what she does day in and day out. She said to me, "Sometimes I feel like I don't do enough." I don't know where she comes up with that feeling because if you see the work she puts into her beautiful yet very informative website you would say, "How does she do this all of this in just 24 hours?"

Donna is a lover of jazz and it shows from her links she tweets on Twitter, the article she writes on "Elements of Jazz". She is a lover of all genres in the world of music but her devotion to Jazz makes me happy to see what news she comes across and I know I speak from her 12,000 followers; thanks for all you do.

Thanks to the listeners, thanks to the people that download my podcast and spread the word of my podcasts and most of all thanx for all you do Donna, keep the info coming.

MLFM episode 010 - For My Twitter Buddies

Back again to bring you another set of music that can help you unwind from a stressful work week. This show because on a more faster tempo the first couple of tracks and then as you know I have to slow it down because this is my calling card when it comes to bringing you music.

This is the Equinox series which means the majority of the compositions are electronic/downtempo. I'm playing around with this concept to begin bringing different podcast series or go back to mixing it up with electronic/jazz/acoustic recordings, we'll see.

This podcast is for the listeners (always) but this is for my photobugs and music lovers over at Twitter that has been so encouraging these past couple of months as I get back in the world of photography. For me photography goes hand and hand because it tells a story of a person, a certain place or an object so this is for you.
