MLFM episode 016 - Right Back Where I Began

So sorry for the delay but this past weekend I had computer glitches and they needed to be addressed. This playlist took so many twist and turns along the way as well as this podcast. Originally this was going to be podcast #14 and it had already been recorded but it was tugging at my spirit that it was not the way I really wanted it to go so I ditched the entire podcast. I still have it recorded, saved and one day I may post so you can see for yourself if my made the right choice.

Then as I changed the playlist I was in a funk and thinking I shouldn't have any voice-overs or commentary and to be honest I think I was feeling sorry for myself so then I wen through the task of arranging the tunes that in a way they would flow from one track to another but then I was speaking with my brother in podcasting Doug Fresh and he was telling me that when he received feed back from @cocobuttercreme on how she actually dug the dialogue break in between the track and how it kept her focus on the podcast it made me change my mind once more and add my usual dialogue in the tracks and to be honest as I listen back to this podcast and earlier podcast I really don't talk that much so thank you brother (Doug) from stopping me from making that mistake.

This playlist in the end turned out to be a really nice podcast and it got me back into the groove of why I take time out of my busy schedule to produce these gems because I feel it my duty to share music that has brought me and continues to bring me joy and allows me to journey to another place when I have had a stressful day. Big thanks to Amarie for the lovely photography that to me depicts my love for Autumn and to Daniel Masson and Anji Bee for sharing their gift of music. I had to show case their music because I've had this music for a minute and it's not right not to share it with the world.

So as also, Kick Back, Relax, and Enjoy the music.

P.S. I said in the podcast that Fave and Eve have been married for about 4-5 years and it's been three-and-a-half years. But I've known them since 2006, (the Vox days...I will miss that blogging platform. Thanx for the memories Vox, sorry for Mena and Ben Trott for mispronouncing your name...it's "Trott" not "Tritt")
Big Thanx to Anji Bee and Daniel Masson for tracks #1, #4, #6

Earl Klugh's Private Affair Live

My brother in podcasting Doug Fresh keeps telling me to go check out YouTube when it comes to finding cool jazz tunes. This track from Earl Klugh is one of my favorite from his Peculiar Situation album. This is one of the first albums I let my queen (who I was trying to court at the time) check out as well as Boney James' "Body Language" and Alex de Grassi's "Windham Hill Retrospective" album. I think that won her over.

My Final Farewell, Thanx Six Apart For 4 Great Years

Today is the last entry here at Vox. I'm been a busy bee today and glad I'm squeezing my last thoughts over at this wonderful site. I read my lil sis Lauren last post and it got me to thinking of how Vox step up my game in regards to blogging. I had a blog over at Blogger (well, I still do) but when Vox came along it made me realize how much fun blogging could be and the people I met when I joined back in 2006 was unbelievable.

People I met here at Vox was some of the most upbeat, uplifting, positive people I had ever met online. What's really cool is the fact that after 4 years I've kept in contact with many of the people and we have never met face to face. One of the things I dug about Vox is how simple it was to blog, post photos, videos, favorite audios and to be honest this was the beginning of my podcasting journey. I started a tech podcast over here, a music podcast over here at Vox. It's really sad that this app is now falling to the wayside like other great web apps. I remember hearing Mena Trott talk about Vox when being interviewed by Amber and Leo over at net@night (then called "Inside the Net").

As I wrote in an earlier post on my love for Vox in the end I think it fell prey to the likes of Twitter and Facebook. Leo Laporte mentioned that he think it was Tumblr and Posterous. One thing Leo and Amber mentioned was something that is true. Although Vox was around for 4 years if you had all of the post and other works it was kinda a "closed blogging application where in order for people to read your post many times people had to become a member and at times that may have been a small headache but to me that was one of the cool thing about Vox. One thing Vox was not was a MySpace of Facebook. Many people over here about having fun but not at the expense of downing or belittling one another that is what I think I will miss the most. Vox may have been closed to the public but it was open when it came to support, encouragement, uplifting one another. It's funny but the early adopters here at Vox we didn't take no mess when it came to being negative. If a person was being disrespectful toward one another we would shot a warning shot "over the bow" so to speak letting them know "we don't play that crap." And if it persist, we couldn't stop them from posting on Vox be we had the option of blocking them.

Every thing has to come to an end and I truly hate to see this wonderful platform go the "internet" heaven in the sky but as my NJ sis told me it's sad right now but it has opened doors and has allowed you to meet wonderful people and it's so true. In a way it's like saying goodbye to a relationship. You wished it could have worked out but in the end had to end. Some people or things are in your life for a season and Vox was in my life for 4 seasons and that I'm blessed to have had 4 years to meet some of coolest people on the planet. Although I have moved my blog over to afrogeek636{ http://afrogeek636.typepad.com/blog/ } and I know as time go on I will meet up with some of my Vox buddies it will never be the same but new beginning is a must and I must move forward although it's pretty sad at the moment.

Thanks Ben, Mena, and the entire crew over at Six Apart for allowing me to share my thoughts, my taste in photographs and music with the masses.

MLFM episode 15 - Soldiers in the Podcasting Game (VoiceMail: 636-299-0787)

"Out my window" by nycgirlygirl72
Every so often I have to "stretch" my brain cells when coming up for a title or theme for my podcast. Some titles come from the titles from one of tracks, from a line in a movie or just how I'm feeling at the moment but this one was a little tough. So when I get stomped I take my iPod with the playlist I'm going to use for the show and get to walking and while listening to the instrumental and vocal tracks of the same tune it hit me that I have give a shout out to the podcasters that showcase music from the mainstream and the podcasters that show case music from new artists from the world of Soul, Hip Hop, and Pop.

I've said in the past that "there's no good music out here from the mainstream" and funny the older you get some of us begin looking at some things through blinders and not taken time to look at the whole picture and the truth is there are some gifted artists in the masses making wonderful music and for me saying that comment, I am truly sorry. Now I'm not saying that all of the music it good because lets be honest, it is but to put it all in the same barrel is not fair to the artists, the songwriters, the composers.

These tracks I've selected are some of my favorite tracks from the past that made me realize that if it wasn't great vocal music coming from the mainstream and new artists these jazz and folk music would not have taken the time to compose these tracks into instrumental form. Hope you get a chance for the next hour so to...

Kick Back, Relax, and Enjoy the tunes

The Beginning of a Series That Grew A Four Part Podcast

La Valse by Gabiche
At first I was going to do just a 2 podcast special called, "An Autumn Evening with Windham Hill"(which is very close to a 4 part podcast I produced a while back called, "MyLoveForMusic: The Beginning") but I know that would be rough because of my love for this label and I see I have close to 30 albums from this label alone. I ripped them to one folder and before I knew it I was like, "how I'm I going to do this, just dwindle this down to just two podcasts." So as I'm sitting here dividing them up into two playlist it hit me...why don't you just do one from now until you go through your Windham Hill collection. (ah, the wonders of beautiful music get the juices flowing in the ol' noggin').

If you have followed my podcasts for the past 2 years you know my love for the Windham Hill label. I think my love for the label started back in the late 80s/early 90s. I knew I've loved this type of music but could never put my finger on it when it came down finding the genre it was under. For many years it's been listed as "New Age" (but don't say that to Will Ackerman, I think he might find yourself getting your teeth knocked out). I don't think Mr. Ackerman would do that but he and many of these gifted musicians would strongly disagree with you when it comes to the label.

These are musicians that love music and wanted to set themselves apart from other musicians. Many started in Rock bands, classical musicians, Jazz, and some just played whatever moved them. When I was single many of weekend nights I would do my errands during the day and at night I would get home, light some candles, turn the lights off and put in some music. Some Jazz, some Donald Fagen or Michael Franks or something from the Narada label but many times I would get my Windham Hill collection and put that on and just let it take me away to another place.

I have quite of few compilation CDs from the Windham Hill collection but many are albums I have of Alex de Grassi, Shadowfax, Will Ackerman, Liz Story, George Winston and others. I have a DVD called "Windham Hill in Concert (1986)" which featured Will Ackerman, Michael Hedges, Scott Cusso, and Shadowfax. I watched so often to get the mind set of how I felt when first discovering Windham Hill.

Fast forward to now. Many of you may have heard some of these tracks and others for the first time. I'm going to make it my mission to bring a podcasts featuring some of my favorite tracks and tracks I'm hearing for the first time myself. As I bring you these tracks I'm going to make it a mission to begin collecting more Windham albums from the years 1976 through 1996 (that's the year Will Ackerman sold the remainder of his stake in Windham Hill Records to BMG.)

From the piano solos from Liz Story, Tim Story, George Winston, to acoustic gems from Earl Klugh, Will Ackerman, Alex de Grassi, the late Michael Hedges to the duo of Tuck and Patti, The Braxton Brothers to the ensemble of Montruex, Shadowfax, Night Noise, I want to share the beauty of music and how it has formed my life and why I do what I do when it comes bringing you some of the most relaxing music.

So come along with me as I take you into the world of Windham Hill. Enjoy the ride.

MLFM: Episode 013 - Come On Autumn

At first I was handling Summer until the hot, HOT temps came a creeping in and then it was time for it go. I can't really complain about Summer because it did come at the right month here in the Midwest instead of April and May like had been in the past years but all and all I'm glad it's close to the back door and Autumn will be walking in the front door. My geek sister tells me the reason why I probably dig Autumn because we all have been conditioned as children to because when  school has always began.

Why this talk of Fall? Because when I was listen to the playback of this playlist, (I always do this before the final podcast to see if the tunes flow together for my liken) I was waiting on my queen and the temperature was really nice, there was a nice breeze blowing and the songs took me back to Autumn. Funny thing, looking at most of the tracks it will take you back to a warm climate; from Special EFX's "Miami" and "Lady from Rio" to Acoustic Alchemy's "Jamaica Heartbeat" to Artie Traum's "Moroccan Wind". So deep down this may be way of saying farewell to Summer.

I'm trying to get back into the habit of trying to put together podcast that are close to or may a little over an hour. Believe me, I was tempted to add more tracks but I stuck to my guns and I have to say I'm quite proud of myself (this one comes in just under 57 minutes)

I think you will enjoy this set of music. This is my "Acoustic Bliss" series where I showcase most of the music mostly from an acoustic point of view with the acoustic guitar in mind.

So as always, Be Blessed, Be Safe, Have a Wonderful weekend.
